Beyond Text: Vision, Voice and Video
How models see, hear, speak and make images and video, and the risks.
Vision models turn image squares into numbers. Voice AI has speech to text, text to speech and live chat. Image models usually remove noise step by step. Video must stay steady across frames. Deepfakes, copyright and privacy are the main risks.
- Diffusion
- Making an image by removing noise step by step.
- Transcription
- Turning speech into written words.
- Deepfake
- A fake image, voice or video of a real person.
Pick the model type for each job.
Read the amounts on a photographed receipt.
Turn a recorded meeting into notes.
Have an app read an article aloud.
Make a poster from a text description.
Make a ten second product clip.
Early AI worked with text. Today, models can also see pictures, hear speech, speak and make images and video. This is layer 3 of the map, the senses. This lesson shows the key ideas in plain words, with a picture for each. It also covers the new risks that come with these abilities.
Seeing: vision models
A vision model reads an image by cutting it into small squares. Each square becomes numbers, much like tokens. The model then reasons about them together with your text.
- Good at: describing a photo, reading a chart, pulling text from a receipt.
- Weaker at: counting many objects, tiny text and exact positions.
- Cost: images use many tokens, so they cost more than a sentence.
Hearing and speaking: voice AI
- Speech to text turns what you say into written words. It is also called transcription.
- Text to speech reads written words aloud in a natural voice.
- Live voice chat joins both. You talk, and the AI talks back.
Speed matters here. In a live chat, a long pause feels broken. Accents, noise and names can still cause mistakes.
Making pictures: how image models work
Many image tools use diffusion. Training teaches the model to remove noise from a blurry picture. To make an image, the model starts from pure noise. Then, step by step, it removes noise, guided by your words. A clear image slowly appears.
Making video
Video is many images in a row. The hard part is keeping people, objects and light steady from frame to frame. It costs more and takes longer than a single image. Results improve fast, so check current tools.
New risks
- Deepfakes: fake images, voices or video of real people.
- Copyright: ask who owns the training data and the output.
- Privacy: photos and voices can reveal personal details.
- Trust: seeing is no longer proof.
Some tools add labels or hidden marks that show an image was made by AI. These help, but they are not perfect. Keep your own records for important work.
Read a receipt photo -> vision model Turn a meeting into notes -> speech to text, then a language model Answer calls out loud -> live voice AI Make a poster -> image model Make a 10 second clip -> video model
Pick the right tool for your job
You do not need the newest model for everything. A simple speech-to-text tool is enough for meeting notes. A plain vision model is enough for reading receipts. Save the heavy tools for hard jobs. Test on your own files, because real files are messier than demos.
Keep a small folder of test files for each sense. Run it again whenever a tool or model changes. You will spot a drop in quality early.
- ✓Vision models cut images into small squares and turn them into numbers.
- ✓Voice AI has three parts: speech to text, text to speech and live chat.
- ✓Image models usually start from noise and remove it step by step.
- ✓Video must stay steady across frames, so it is slower and costlier.
- ✓Deepfakes, copyright and privacy are the main risks.
Pick the right sense
- Write four jobs, such as reading invoices, meeting notes, a phone helpline and a product photo.
- Name the type of model each needs.
- Write one risk for each job.
- Test one job with a free tool and write down what went wrong.
Q1How does a vision model read a picture?show answer
It cuts the image into small squares, turns them into numbers and reasons about them with your text.
Q2How does a diffusion model make an image?show answer
It starts from noise and removes it step by step, guided by the prompt.
Q3Why is live voice hard?show answer
Delays feel broken, and accents or noise can cause mistakes.
